The ATOM dieless knife cutting system can take advantage of powerful nesting software both automatic and interactive in order to maximize the productivity of the operator as well as the material yield. Automatic nesting software sold with automatic cutting machines is normally a “standardized” package, designed to deal with a specific issue but not able to deliver optimal results in diverse environments nor is customized to meet greater demands. ATOM does not believe in the “one size fits all” approach and for this reason we offer a variety of nesting solutions designed for a variety of materials and industries. This is why we offer a “complete cutting solution”, since we deliver our experience, the software package and the cutting system.

Nesting software and acquisition systems are surely key factors of the ATOM dieless cutting solution.  Actually, it completes the cutting system allowing to optimize material yield and dramatically reducing the overall time for placing the shapes to be processed.  Since this is a crucial feature to any dieless cutting system, ATOM developed a series of software packages each capable of nesting shapes for a variety of market sectors:
Automatic Nesting Strategies to Optimize Material Yields

  • SoleNest – Strategy designed to optimize the nesting of soles on thick leather.
  • BagNest – Strategy to nest leather goods such as leather bags, wallets and suitcases.
  • BeltNest – Strategy designed to satisfy the makers of leather belts in straight as well as curved shapes.
  • UpperNest – Strategy dedicated to the nesting of uppers on leathers used in the footwear industry.
  • LuxuryNest – Strategy designed to optimize the nesting of leather used in the upholstery and furniture industry.
  • EchoNest – Strategy designed to place shoe components on materials in roll or sheet form – multi-layer materials.
  • StripeNest– Strategy aimed @ optimizing the automatic nesting of insoles on material strips.
  • TexNest – Strategy to nest on rolls typically used in the apparel & fashion industry.
  • SIPECO CAD – Development software for footwear industry - 2D and 3D CAD specific for design, development, shape acquisition, grading and pattern cutting.
  • Job Manager Software – For the management of the cutting room – ATOM can supply a special software package to create production orders following the given priorities.
  • CuteCAD – The new 2D design software for gaskets designed to speed up the prototyping process and shorten the time-to-market of your products.
* Our customers can also ask for custom nesting solutions able to fully support their production requirements.

When we reference on-line nesting, this operation is performed directly on the cutting table. Normally this system is used when cutting materials with irregular contours & that have defects or different quality areas. The main stages of on-line nesting are:
  • Material deployment on the cutting system
  • Contour recognition and defect marking
  • Part nesting that can be fully automatic, manual (interactive) or mixed
  • Begin the cutting sequence
Having the ability to choose either automatic or manual nesting allows greater flexibility, as an example the operator might decide to manually place critical parts or manually optimize certain areas of the materials letting the software automatically nest around these critical areas to complete the job.
Off-line nesting is performed in two distinct stages; the defect marking and the deployment of the material on the cutting machine.  Defect marking can be done using an Off-Line Intelliview Acquisition System which is a special table equipped with a powerful digital camera, overhead projector and software able to recognize the material contour and assist the operator in marking the quality areas.  The data collected using the Intelliview System is then used by the automatic nesting software, fed by the production orders.
When the materials are ready to be cut they are deployed on the knife cutting table, the proper layout (nest) is loaded and the cutting cycle begins. It is crucial to use a highly optimized nesting algorithm to maximize the material yield. ATOM offers multiple solutions, designed for several different industries and materials.
