ATOM Nesting Software

Nesting software is surely a key factor of the ATOM dieless cutting solution. Actually, it completes the cutting system allowing to optimize material yield & dramatically reducing the overall time for placing the shapes to be processed. Since this is a crucial feature to any dieless cutting system, ATOM developed a series of software packages each capable of nesting shapes for a variety of market sectors;
  • Wallets, bags & suitcases in leather & textile
  • Shoe components in synthetic
  • Shoe components in leather
  • Automotive interior trim
  • Automotive seating in leather & textile
  • Furniture in leather
  • Leather belting
  • Leather soles & fiber insoles
  • Gaskets
  • Standard geometry (circles, rectangles, triangles etc..)
The ATOM dieless cutter can take advantage of powerful nesting software both automatic and interactive in order to maximise the productivity of the operator as well as the material yield. The software used on all ATOM cutting systems is engineered by STRING, a software house partnered with ATOM for over 10 years. Besides the "traditional" nesting software we offer to our customers, we propose CUTWEB, an innovative solution to manage nesting and cutting through the Internet.

Different Nesting Solutions for Different Cutting Situations

Automatic nesting software sold with automatic cutting machines is normally a "standardized" package, designed to deal with a specific issue but not able to deliver optimal results in diverse environments nor is it customized to meet greater demands. ATOM does not believe in the "one size fits all" approach and for this reason we offer a variety of nesting solutions designed for a variety of materials and industries. This is why we offer a "complete cutting solution", since we deliver our experience, the software package and the cutting machine.

On-Line Nesting

When we reference on-line nesting, this operation is performed direclty on the cutting table. Normally this system is used when cutting with the ATOM Flashcut oscillating knife cutting machines for materials with irregular contours & that have defects or different quality areas. The main stages of on-line nesting are;
  • Material deployment on the cutting system
  • Contour recognition and defect marking
  • Part nesting that can be fully automatic, manual (interactive) or mixed
  • Begin the cutting sequence
Having the ability to choose either automatic or manual nesting allows greater flexibility, as an example the operator might decide to manually place critical parts or manually optimize certain areas of the materials, letting the software automatically nest around these critical areas to complete the job.

Off-Line Nesting

Off-line nesting is performed in two distinct stages; the defect marking and the deployment of the material on the cutting machine. Defect marking can be done using an Off-Line Intelliview System which is a special table equipped with a digital camera, overhead projector and software able to recognize the material contour and assist the operator in marking the quality areas. The data collected using the Intelliview system is then used by the automatic nesting software, fed by the production orders.

When the materials are ready to be cut they are deployed on the cutting table, the proper layout (nest) is loaded and the cutting cycle begins. It is crucial to use a highly optimized nesting algorithm to maximize the material yield. ATOM offers multiple solutions, designed for several different industries and materials.

Our customers can also ask for custom nesting solutions able to fully support their production requirements.

Automatic Nesting Through the Web

This is an innovative solution; managing the nesting without having to install new software on your computer, without having to purchase 2nd licensees for the nesting software and without using powerful work stations for the nesting calculations. Everything is performed through the internet. CUTWEB allows you to manage cutting orders from any web connected PC.
